Q1. What is Band For The Day (BFTD)?

A1. BFTD is a music download website which is based upon a 24 hour competition for registered artists/bands. The competition starts afresh every single day.

Q5. How does the 24 hour competition work?

Each time a track is listened to, purchased or voted for via cell/mobile phone, the artist/band receives a vote(s). The artist or band whose song has gathered the greatest number of votes at the end of the 24 hour period becomes 'Band For The Day' the very next day.

Q6. If I purchase an artist or band song, how can I continue to support them?

A6. Members of the public who already own a bands song can continue to support a specific group or musician by buying a vote through SMS text message or by listening (free of charge) to their entire BFTD song sample. Artists/Bands receive ten percent in votes of all daily listens.

Q7. Are there any other ways in which I can support my chosen artist(s)?

A7. Yes, you can conduct a campaign on their behalf titled a "Spike". To carry out a Spike campaign, simply click "Create A Spike Campaign" in your own private member area. You then create a petition, which if successful, will give your chosen artist(s) ten votes at the end of the day and you will receive ten free songs of your choice from the BFTD website. Read the supplied documentation for further details.

Q8. How much does it cost to create a Spike campaign?

A8. A Spike campaign costs £2/$4/3Euros.

Q9. What happens if I complete my Spike campaign?

A9. If successful, your details of who you are, where you come from and the artist or band you campaigned for will be displayed on the BFTD website. The musician(s) you campaigned for will also be notified of your successful campaign and sent your email so that they can keep in contact with you.

Q10. What is a "Rush Period"?

A10. A 'Rush Period' happens randomly once every twelve hours. During rush periods, all votes cast are doubled (excluding Spikes). When a rush period is active the countdown clock will prominently display this event throughout the BFTD site. Users can also be alerted to rush periods by opting in to receive SMS text messages on their mobile (cell) phones.

Q11. What is the Hall Of Fame?

A11. The Hall Of Fame is reserved for artists or bands whose songs receive the highest amount of votes. Bands can be removed by new artists or bands who score higher vote counts. Artist or Bands need to win BFTD three times to have a chance of entering the Hall Of Fame.

Q12. How many songs can an artist or band sell at any one time?

A12. All artists/bands sell only one 'vote catcher' song. This song is their BFTD song. As musicians progress on the site, they will build up a library of songs for sale as they win BFTD. These songs are archived on the respective bands 'Band Page' where they are available for preview and sale. No song, other than the artists or bands current BFTD song gain any votes.

Q13. How many times can I enter a members competition?

A13. Members of the public are free to enter public competitions as many times as they wish. The winner will be picked randomly from all correct answers submitted.

Q14. How do artists/bands win competitions?

A14. Artists who gain the highest daily vote count within the competitions date will win. By default, the competition winner will have already won BFTD as BFTD winners will have gathered the highest number of votes on a daily basis throughout the month.

Q15. What time zone is BFTD set to and when does each day end?

A15. BFTD is set to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), England. BFTD ends each day at midnight. The next day will begin at 12.01am.

Q16. Does setting BFTD to this time zone give artists or bands based in Europe an unfair advantage for winning BFTD?

A16. In our opinion absolutely not. BFTD members from throughout the world can compete and maximise their vote during the hours of the day that best suits their potential fans. Hopefully, wherever you are in the world, the music will speak for itself and people will purchase, listen and vote on the strength of a songs own merit regardless of national boundaries or geographic area.

Q17. How can I find out about artists or bands where I live?

A17. BFTD makes use of Google maps. By loading this map or exporting to Google Earth you can see at a glance info about bands based in your city and country.

Q18. What do the various tables represent throughout the site?

A18. The three site wide tables tell you which artists and bands are being voted for the most. The tables are: Today's Top Ten: The top ten selling bands of that particular day, What's Hot: Bands that are selling well within any given hour and All Time Best Sellers: the bands that have gathered the most votes of all time on the site.

Q19. How do I find out about music that I am interested in on BFTD?

A19. The BFTD site includes a suite of search facilities that will help you locate all the new music you ever need. By clicking on the Search facility you will be taken to an area of the site where you can find artists and bands by country, genre or band name. There is also a random choice button or you can choose from any of the five featured bands at the bottom of the search page. These five featured bands change daily and are chosen randomly by BFTD featuring only artists/bands who have never ranked in the Hall Of Fame or won BFTD.

Q20. What are the benefits to joining the site as a public member?

A20. By joining the site as a public member you will be provided with your own unique public members "Backstage Pass". Here you can upload a pic. of yourself and if you wish, supply various details for other members to view and possibly communicate with you. You will also be able to keep a track of what you have bought from the BFTD site and we will recommend other songs that people like you have bought based on your buying preferences. You will be informed of member only prizes, special promotions from the bands and BFTD and up and coming events and gigs. There is a lot more to the public backstage pass than can be shown here. Q21. How much money do I get from sales?

A21. BFTD now gives band even more money for each song sale. Currently for each song sold the band receives £0.56 which is based on the sale of one song at £0.79 - paypal fees of £0.23.
